To kick off the school year, the Agathai Chapter at UCLA took a weekend trip up to Big Bear, CA for a team bonding and leadership retreat! With our sleeping bags in hand we quickly settled into our cabin and set out for a hike through the treacherous Big Bear mountain top, a hike informally known as “Castle Rock.” While trekking through the woodland terrain we stopped along the way to reflect on what it means to be a leader and a member of Mortar Board at UCLA. We made it back to the cabin just in time for the UCLA vs. Arizona State football game, where we cheered on our Bruins and grilled burgers for a team feast. Who would have thought cooking dinner could also serve as a team building exercise? With some members grilling, others cooking pasta, some cutting vegetables, and the majority of us providing support wherever it was needed, we all got to know each other a bit better. After dinner we got to know one another through stories about our experiences in college and talked more about our individual roles as members of the Mortar Board team. All in all, the great outdoors was a breath of fresh air, and an excellent way to for our team to formulate a game plan that will surely take our campus by storm.
